What is Mobile Agent
You are no doubt aware of the amazing growth of technology, and the many benefits it provides us all in our daily lives. Some of this growth and these benefits may be quite readily apparent and visible in our everyday lives. Others may not be so obvious to us, but to those in tech-focused industries who rely on them, it is quite noticeable and valuable. For instance, mobile agent technology serve as an example of rapid technological advancement that offers practical benefits for those in the tech world.
Mobile agent technology is quite possibly a term you are completely unfamiliar with. However, you may be exposed to mobile agents every day at work or at home. Even though you may have never personally installed them, you may have had them work to your advantage and not even know it.
How can that be? Well, mobile agents by design work independently. After they have been installed on one computer, they can navigate their way to other computers within a network to execute scripts and perform tasks. In that sense they represent truly remarkable innovation.
A mobile agent is installed on a network and requires use of specialized servers. They are coded with Java Virtual Machine, which allows them to be used on several different types of computers and devices. Within a business network, that functionality is greatly appreciated, because the variety of different devices being used could be significant.
So if your company’s network has users of GPS devices, computers, notebook computers, smartphones, and tablet PCs, the mobile agent on your network can keep them all serviced. This can be a huge time saver as IT personnel will not need to code separate versions for each device type. It also saves time for the person responsible for installing and deploying, since only one install will need to be made.
What are some of the uses of mobile agent technology? Your technology team can probably think of a variety of creative uses. Think of it in these terms: if there is a piece of information of almost any type that needs to be shared across networks, mobile agents can help. So location, financial information, or instant messaging stand as a few possible applications.
If you have information-sharing of some sort that needs to take place, consult your IT staff and see if they can envision mobile agents as fulfilling your needs. Talk to them about who it should be shared with, what type of information it is, and what will be done with it, and they can help you determine the right solution.
Just a few years ago, could you ever have guessed that this type of technology would exist? Mobile agents autonomy and self-direction is truly impressive, and it offers lots of exciting potential. And perhaps the best news of all is that they will continue to evolve, becoming an increasingly sophisticated tool for IM staff everywhere to use.
